End of the season? 11/15/15

It’s been a while since I did a blog, It has been very busy around here this fall.  Between the farm, family, and work, there never seems to be a minute of free time.  The twins are active in running cross country. I think they have had a race almost every weekend since school started. They ended the year very successfully, finishing as 2 of the top 3 runners on the team. Now it’s on to wrestling season until March.

It seems like I will never get caught up around the farm.  Thankfully it has been a very nice Autumn. Our grazing season is going to be ending soon, and we will be feeding all the hay that we worked so hard at this summer. Hopefully we have enough to survive another winter. I always worry about not having enough but it seems like I end up with a little left over each spring.

We have raised our last batch of Chickens for the year.  If you haven’t heard yet, Rowdy’s Smokehouse in Jackson is now serving our chicken. They are selling it as half chicken dinners.  If you are in Jackson, stop and give it a try. Hopefully we can get them to use us as their only source of chicken in the future. We have plenty of chicken in the freezers for winter, so don’t be strangers this winter, give us a shout and we will be glad to get you what you need.

Thanksgiving is almost here, and the turkeys are almost ready. They will get loaded up this Thursday and be processed on Friday. We will do a drop off in Jackson on Saturday morning from 9-9:45/10:00.  You can pick up at the farm then after 11:00 till 1:00  We still have a couple left we can sell, so if you haven’t gotten one, hurry and reserve yours.

Those of you that live near Jackson, we will be doing drop-offs to anyone who would like, the first Saturday morning of each month at Rowdy’s Smokehouse from 9-9:30.  If you would like anything, we prefer you send us an order by email or FB message. This will help us save time, and save you some time. It’s not mandatory, but would be appreciated.

One other note, Saturday after Thanksgiving is small business Saturday. We would like to encourage you to do as much of your Christmas shopping locally as you can. I know things can cost a little more at a small business, but remember those business owners are the ones who support your local schools, churches and charities. At my kids school, their sports teams rely on sponsors for support. Those sponsors are usually get a spot on the team’s T-shirts. I have yet to see Wal Mart, Kmart, Kohl’s, Macy’s, TSC, Rural King or any other large chain store on any of those shirts. I have also never seen or heard of them buying any 4H/FFA projects at the county fairs. When we support those local owned businesses, they tend to give back their support to the community.

Hopefully it won’t be as long till my next writing. I’ve had some things rattling around in my head to talk about. With the shorter days, and not as many animals to take care of after this week, I can hopefully get some of my rants and thoughts written down.

Happy Thanksgiving, remember where all those blessing come from.
